Bernard & Margaret Maunder
60th Wedding Anniversary
They met on Plymouth Hoe when apparently Barbara asked Bernard to teach
her to dive. Married on the 29th May 1954 in Plymouth Cathedral by
the Right Reverend Francis Grimshaw, Bishop of Plymouth, Bernard and Barbara
went on to have three highly successful children - Peter a Headteacher, Andrea,
also a Headteacher and John a Police Inspector. They are now the proud
grandparents of seven and one great grandchild.
They have lived very active lives and still participate in various sports such as Bowls and Aqua Aerobics and Aqua Zumba. Bernard was the British Army Diving Champion and the Western Counties Diving Champion. He was also a keen walker and until recently would think nothing of going for a little ten-mile stroll on the Moors. Their married life has been one of dedication to others. Together they have been associated with the Scouts for nearly sixty years. In their Parish Church of St. Peter's, Crownhill, Bernard is a Eucharistic Minister visiting the sick and housebound, both are church cleaners, while Barbara is a Welcomer, an active member of the CWL, cooks for the Refugees and works as a volunteer in the Hospital Bookshop.
Friends and family are always made to feel very welcome at their get-togethers with Barbara's pasties being very popular! In spite of health scares, nothing is ever too much when it comes to helping others.
They have supported the Smeaton Probus Club since its formation in 1991 and its current members are pleased to add their congratulations and send best wishes for more happy years together.
